Located on the riverfront, Chris Larsen Park is a 110-acre public park in Sioux City. Visitors can take a relaxing walk on the park’s paved paths or enjoy lunch at one of the picnic areas.
The park has many attractions such as the Anderson Dance Pavilion, Flight 232 Memorial, Sergeant Floyd Riverboat Museum, and Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. The Anderson Dance Pavilion is an amazing venue for concerts, dances, and weddings during the summer.
The park also has a public boat ramp and a fish cleaning station. The Chris Larsen Park Development Project will continue to improve the park.
The Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center tells the story of the Lewis and Clark Expedition into the western portion of the country. Sergeant Charles Floyd died during the trip and was buried in what later became Sioux City. The Sergeant Floyd Monument is dedicated to him.
The details of the expedition are told through animatronic mannequins, computers, flip books, hand painted murals, reproductions of the explorer’s equipment, and other creative ways. Outside the museum is a giant bronze sculpture that portrays Meriwether Lewis, William Clark, and Lewis’s dog, Seaman. This is an exciting place to visit for all ages!
The Sioux City Bandits are a semi-professional football team from Sioux City. As of 2020, The Bandits are part of Champions Indoor Football. The Bandits won their first league championship in 2011. They won again in 2012 and 2015. The Tyson Events Center is the home stadium for the Sioux City Bandits. Come out and support the home team!
One of their star players was running back Fred Jackson. After graduating from Coe College, Fred Jackson played two seasons for the Sioux City Bandits. He was named league co-MVP in 2005. Jackson then played nine seasons in the NFL.
