Key Places
LaunchPAD Children’s Museum provides the children of Sioux City with educational play. This is a great place for kids and their caregivers. The exhibits include Block Wall and Build Zone, Flight Zone, and Water Table. They also have an Infant-Toddler Area.
The children’s museum opened its doors in early 2016. Their mission is to provide a safe place for children to develop creativity and imagination. Admission is $8 for ages 1-65. It is free for children younger than 1.
The Sioux City Prairie Preserve is a 150-acre nature preserve in Sioux City. The preserve has more than 100 species of plants and is an important home for prairie butterflies.
The preserve has hiking trails so visitors can enjoy the beautiful prairie and Loess Hills. If you are a birdwatcher, you’ll be pleased to know that the area has a diverse number of birds. No bikes or other vehicles are allowed in the preserve.
Briar Cliff University created their Center for Prairie Studies in part because of the near location of Sioux City Prairie Preserve. The preserve is owned and protected by The Nature Conservancy.
Tyson Events Center is a multi-purpose venue in Downtown Sioux City. The center is the home to two professional sports teams: the Sioux City Bandits (Champions Indoor Football) and the Sioux City Musketeers (United States Hockey League). Aerosmith, Dolly Parton, Nickelback, and Taylor Swift have held concerts at Tyson Events Center. The center has also hosted WWE events.
Located in Tyson Events Center, Long Lines Family Recreation Center has a first-class 53-foot climbing wall. It also has an indoor soccer space, basketball courts, volleyball courts, and a batting cage. Tyson Events Center has a little bit for everyone so keep an eye on their schedule!
